RM computers in local mode

Postby Phantom » Thu Nov 08, 2007 10:01 pm

is the music department at my school you can boot the computers into normal mode (the usual rm stuff) and local mode (basically completly normal xp). Only thing is, when in local mode you cant do anything involving the network, so no internet, accessing things on the network, etc, but of course the pc is still plugged into the network.

any idea how i can get the pc to work on the internet? im assuming its something to do with rm, or are there just some drivers for the internet or something i could install? not really had too much of a look at the pc's.

Hmm im not sure....... :?
In my school, computers with no rm installed still can go on the internet, they have a proxy server they must have under internet options.
But on rm computer internet options is disabled so you couldn't see!
Maybe that is the problem.
Though this wouldn't effect not accessing things on the network.
Does my network places work etc.........

hmm didnt think about checking my network places, ill check that next week when im back at schoo. Though i have tried netstat and pinging, which resulted it showing nothing was connected to the pc and it couldnt ping. Ive got a feeling its controlled my rm though, since the pc is an rm one that normally runs the usual way (logged onto the network) and its just local mode from the rm boot manager.

Hmm, I've been thinking about this, and I've thought of 3 ways those computers could be set-up:

    1. The computer is connected to the network and has an IP address; it isn't connected to the domain however, and no proxy server settings have been entered, nor have any network drives been mapped.

    2. The network adapters in the computer are disabled (or uninstalled) in local mode, meaning that any access to the network is impossible

    3. There is some software installed in local mode which specifically prevents you from accessing the network

What permissions do you have on the computer in local mode? I can think of possible workarounds that way :D

im not sure, but im pretty sure itll be a local user since there are 2 accounts, student and teacher (both passworded and we only get told the student one, im guessing the teacher gets admin)

next time im on it ill check what group the user is in.
