Heres a nice one: VPN's

Postby heebyjeebys » Wed Nov 19, 2008 3:51 pm

Now I know that the network connections panel is blocked under group policy... even on an 'advanced user' but I need to have a VPN connection (going to my own server.... this is also quite handy because NAT is enabled on my server... and you can get internet over a VPN .. so theoretically I would get unfiltered internet access because a VPN connection takes priority over the local connection) so that I can get files and crap from home... (I like to complicate matters by not bringing a usb stick)

So I have thought of two things...
1. Is there anyway that I can create the VPN connection on the school comps?
2. Is there any way to copy the VPN connection from my laptop onto the school comps?

*Note... for some reason IFL has blocked Sharepoint services ... which is why I now need to use a VPN! .. which I think is strange because media streams work fine, SSL ports work fine.. just not sharepoint .. even remote desktop worked on one of the computers that hadn't had a gp update in quite a while..... (my server runs SBS 2003 btw)

Lemme if anyone has any ideas.

I considered doing this at one point...

It's not really feasible to do it from a school PC, but with a laptop, you should be able to establish a VPN tunnel to your home server/router. The problem is, any admin with half a brain will have the school firewall blocking everything except a few allowed ports, so you probably won't be able to get the connection out :/

I tried getting onto HotSpot VPN from the school network (friend's laptop), and I couldn't get a connection. I'm guessing it was blocked at the firewall :(
