If the man has no knowledge that the property is stolen, he will not be in trouble. I dont know how the law works over in the UK, but in America a person has to have intent and knowledge to be accountable for a wrong doing, he has neither. If anything, all this would lead to is an investigation that could lead them to you.

BANG BANG. WRONG!

Not knowing you've done a criminal offence doesn't exclude/ammend you from prosecution. Wherever.

In the UK, that is the law. If he could prove it wasn't him that installed it, he might just be able to avoid offence. The school itself would be in BIG trouble though.

Wait a minute, is he saying that HE put the stuff on the system, or that the tech guy did it?

Just had a thought, was it a staff laptop that it was found on? Loads of staff are notorious for downloading unscrupulous programs to their work laptops...

I found it while browsing restricted files on a staff laptop but I was just going to ask the techie about it and see what he says about it, don't mean to do any harm.

Nah don't worry about it, he'll probably slap whoever put the software on the laptop in the first place.

Our IT tech was telling us about a time when the school bought a load of HP laptops- brilliant laptops, but they pre-install loads of crap on them (Like a 1gb odd backup program), and there was loads of UNLICENSED stuff pre-installed by HP. Expensive stuff too, like office pro with business extensions and all the other paraphernalia related to it. This was on a business laptop too, where people get into serious trouble for having unlicensed stuff; they had to uninstall all of the unlicensed crap before they could roll the laptops out.

Did I also mention how bad acer laptops are? :P
