Is this open to UK students, and do you actually have to be in university to join it?

Also, SSL error on the site isn't encouraging..

all you need dude is an "Access Code" which I was able to get from my local college (being a student and all), Just ask one of the technicians or an MS tutor

OR

If you are a student just hit the top option to select use .ac.uk e-mail ..... use that then login to your .ac.uk account and everything you need will be in said e-mail.

I managed to get in and Have downloaded all the server packages on there.

I just used the Athens account I have with my college to get access. Pretty sweet, a legal license for Server 2008 for free!

You can ask your IT teacher/admin to sign up for the scheme- they can obtain access for free, and get 200 access keys to give to students. Get them to head to the dreamspark site.
