Release of platypus!

Postby heebyjeebys » Sat May 23, 2009 8:52 pm

The last thread was like a wet lettuice... but now im going to release it

Platypus is like an instant messenger, for xatrix. Developed by heeby and visuals by cheesy

I am going to include it in that rm icon thing i made a few weeks ago as well and will work on a computer with net framework installed

download version 1 below if you want to give it a try:

http://computek.dyndns.org/platypus

It connects to a central server and distributes mesages, rather like irc does

Nice! ;)

You really need to buy a domain though; having something.dyndns.org really sucks...

Then he'd have to pay money to the Domain Registrar, AND
Money to dyndns to use Custom DNS!

I think he wants it to be free! :P

It'd cost about £10 per year, and he wouldn't have to pay any money to dyndns. Pretty cheap, if you ask me.

He would!
He is running his website and TS of his own Windows Server 2008 at home.
He needs to use Custom DNS, which he will need to pay dyndns for! :P

I don't have a fixed ip address. i suppose that i could have a propper dns name forward requests to .dyndns that would work, but then we might also run into issues with mx records - i run email too.

It would be great if i had better uptime too ... evil dad; draining the national grid my arse. maybe if i had a 24 hour ups or something...

For version 2 of my messenger - contact list, username and password (encrypted) seperate conversations and the ablility to send files over. How does that sound?

I might also release the server that controls it one day. I've estimated that it can handle about 1,250 concurrent connected users - not bad for 258kb of program eh?
