Even though you ran a virus check, you may want to consider that yours didn't find it. Try using Avast!, it is the best IMHO.

-Restart your computer.
-Open Firefox, go to help, press on check for updates. If your problem is a virus, there is a good chance the newest, latest version of Firefox will fix it.
-Open Firefox, go to tools, and clear your internet history. (cookies, history, downloads, everything)
-If these don't work, it may be a problem with a different part of the computer. Download this:
