Blocking unwanted sites for IE, Firefox and everything else
This tutorial shows you how you can block certain websites from been accessed on your computer. This "blocking" is global, it will work in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Command shell, whatever software or browser wants to visit a blocked site, it will not work.
It will block:
- phishing sites
- malicious sites (which exploit vulnerabilities in web browsers)
- user tracking sites (cookie tracking sites)
- malware sites
1. Download HostsMan from Xatrix.
2. Install HostsMan. Upon startup HostsMan will ask you to disable DNS client caching. Choose yes since you probably don't need it.
3. Update your hosts file definitions
4. If you wish, you can also block pr0_n sites by downloading an additional hosts list from here and importing it via "File" > "Import hosts file" option.
5. Restart your computer.
Update your hostsfile using HostsMan once per week.
