You might want to look into Google Apps. It's free, gives you as many accounts as you ask for (within reason, I've got 100 on domains before, never gone higher), and lets you use your own domain name, for that professional look.

7GB+ per account, SMTP/POP is encrypted, so won't be blocked by an ISP blocking port 25; can be accessed from any internet connection, and won't be lost if you change your ISP. I'm running my mail through them at the moment.

I don't want them to host email for me - i want to bounce my email off their smtp relay server.
The difference there is that I host the email but i just send it through their servers

I'm using google apps for my professional e-mail/PIM right now; it's sweeeet! I've got a pretty nifty setup with Thunderbird, so that I have access to my e-mail and calendar wherever I am in the world :)
Some people are like Slinkies: completely useless but fun to watch when you push them down stairs.
